World Water Day

Some special days like World Water Day are not important just for celebrating the hero behind the day, We need to observe some special days to realize the need of the hour too.

World Water Day celebration had started on 22 March 1993 as the United Nations' observance day to spotlight the value of fresh water and taking steps in direction of sustainable management of pure water resources.

World Water Day events are organized worldwide on different themes. Organizations arrange educational, musical, lobbying, and theatrical programs. Some target increasing awareness; some focus on fund-raising projects; and some propose new ideas on how to save the water.

History of World Water Day

The Idea

In 1992, the concept and idea of observing World Water Day marked an entry into the United Nations.

First World Water Day

In 1993, the proposed idea turned into reality and the world observed World Water Day for the first time.

Water for Life Decade

In 2005, the Water for Life Decade took entry with its official launch. It aimed at giving a boost to the participation and contribution of women. It also focused on the water programs that belonged to the UN.

Links of Water with Other Severe Issues

In 2020, we realized the links of water with climate change in a way that we did never before.

World Water Day Celebration Ideas

Smart Use of Water

Do you know that the average amount of water that is used by the American shower is about 17 gallons? Surprisingly, the water consumption by toilet flush is about 7 gallons.

We can use showerheads and low-flow toilets for minimising water consumption.

Ensure Clean Water Sources

Most of us remain particular about using filtered water and clean containers for drinking water but what about other species who get affected because of the way we consume our water sources?

Have you ever thought about what happens to the water that we use in our daily lives? Where does it go and how it impacts the lives of others?

The water we use gets mixed up with the local ponds and rivers. Further, these rivers join the sea. This way, if we let plastic, pollution, and chemicals go into the sea, it affects the wildlife badly.

Being sensitive, let’s approach our friends and neighbors to make a water cleanup team and ensure clean water sources.

Sensitize People

Organize an awareness program to address the water-related problems on themes such as:

  1. Save the water
  2. Clean up water resources
  3. Minimize water pollution.

Why is World Water Day Celebrated?

Its Impact Touches the Millions

The issue of contaminated water has shaped like one of the top three world problems. Do you know that there are about seven 80 million people who don’t have assessable drinking water?

We all have equal rights to clean water but there are many who are getting life-threatening diseases instead of pure, freshwater.

Michigan is an example of how such a (looking like a) small issue can also lead human society to even a hazardous situation like the plague.

Observing a day like World Water Day highlights the severity of the cause.

It Gives an Eye-Opener

Who could think that little misconduct could also lead to death?! But this is the truth of today. Water pollution — a condition that we have created collectively — is killing countless animals every year.

When we mark the World Water-Tech with awareness drives, programs, and themes, we get the areas where we can work in order to lead towards a better scenario.

The situation that we are in might be because of any of the following reasons:

  1. Water pollution
  2. Physical letter
  3. Chemical run-off

We all know that animals depend on water sources for habitation and drinking.

We also know that for environmental equilibrium and a sound ecosystem, we all need to live in harmony. But if we are the direct or indirect reason for the toxic water that is reaching to forests, only we can take a step to fix the issue too.

Significance of World Water Day

When we think of water from a global perspective, to water-related causes that come first into the light are:

  1. How to save water?
  2. How to make fresh water available in every zone of the world?

Obviously, the global issues can’t be addressed by the efforts of a few people, societies, governments, or organizations. We all need to join hands by giving our sincere contribution to combating water-related issues.

But the question arises– how to associate an involved general mass with water-related programs?

And here comes the rationale and importance of observing World Water Day. It joins the human communities as a global family in order to address the water-related causes.

This way, people realize their responsibilities and moral duties.
