History of National Tourism Day

Two Popular Words Took Birth

On January 20, 1758, and two popular words were introduced to the world — ‘tour’ and ‘tourist’.Where ‘tour’ was defined to refer to a 'journey' or 'trip', the word ‘tourist’ was introduced to refer to its participants.

Tour and Tourism as a Luxury Event

During the 19th century, tourism was seen as an expensive hobby that was stamped for the rich only.

Only those who had sufficient money to spend and time to spare, they used to enjoy tourism and traveling.

Travel Company Introduced

Thomas Cook Company is considered as the oldest travel company which proposed an organized travel experience.

This world’s first company that promoted the organized tourism was established on July 5, 1841.

Tour and Travels Package

3 June 1843 was the date when the first group tour headed for enjoying a packaged tour.

Thanks to the Thomas Cook company And for presenting an idea for lesser expensive trips. This first group package tour became a trend later.

First Celebration

By signing a proclamation in May 1983, President Ronald Regan proclaimed an urge of celebrating Travel and Tourism Week.

This week, all the citizens of the United States found their first National Tourism Take on 7 May 1983.

National Tourism Day Celebration Ideas

Plan A Journey

It’s not every day when you can think of tourism. Take the National Tourism Day as an opportunity to motivate your nerves for spending some time. Enjoy exploring nature, places, and history.

Make up your mind and also motivate a group of your friends or family members so that you can make this a memorable one.

Go solo

If making a group seems a task to you, you can also plan a solo trip which is very popular these days.

Too much business and hectic schedules of people do not allow one to make a group with a good number of travelers. All the participants do not find holidays or leaves at the same time.

If you are also facing the same kind of an issue, let a solo trip be the answer to your hurdles.

Travel Abroad

It’s always fascinating to make a trip out of the country. Even if you are a frequent traveler, if the world is your option, your motivation is never going to fall short.

But what if you have never booked a seat on the airplane for going out of the country? It’s indeed going to be an amazing experience for you to sit on the plane first time and traveling abroad.

Let this experience add to your memory book on National Tourism Day. Falling short of motivation? Ask a simple question to yourself, “if not ‘now’ then ‘when’?”!

Google It

If you do not have a budget for expensive trips and have been visiting the famous places of your own city or town, you might have fallen short of options.

Let Google help you to find a place that you have never visited before.

Once you have made this option your friend, you will never face a shortage of options. Well, it’s not my claim; it is a testimony of many who appreciated Google for showing the secret places that came into their sight as a great surprise.

Gift a Trip

You must have given various kinds of gifts to your close ones such as a teddy bear, tie, pen, dress, watch, crockery items, and many more. But have you ever gifted someone a “trip”?

Book a seat by buying a ticket and gift it to the one you want to surprise. Let someone remember you with a smile for the entire trip and the rest of your life.

Why is National Tourism Day Celebrated?

It’s a Pool of Newness and Freshness

Too much use of techno-digital systems has made our life machinery to a great extent. It emerges the need for breaks from the monotonous schedules.

Traveling to new places brings newness into daily routines. It refreshes and refuels the tiring soul.

It Breaks the Fears

When we meet new people and encounter new situations, it boosts our confidence and breaks the stronghold of various types of fear.

Many people also take challenges for the breakthrough. Some try to measure the height of the sky, and some, the depth of the sea.

It’s the fear of the height of the water, people try to face their fears at least once so that they can push the limits of their courage and meet a new person when they see themselves in the mirror.

Cultural Bites

It’s not the fear only that people try to conquer; some people try to conquer the hearts too. They go out to meet new people, make friends, and learn about their culture.

It gives one a chance to peek into different types of lifestyles, outfits, food, recipes, dance forms, singing styles, and accessories.

The taste of such cultural bites doesn’t last ever, living with one as a beautiful memory.

It Enhances Knowledge

Every trip and gives you not only new experiences but also new pieces of information and enlarges the circumference of the knowledge.

When we meet different people, it’s not just the difference of their outer appearances. The word ‘different' also incorporates varied mindsets, behaviors, attitudes, and styles.

Tours and travels give us new perspectives and visions about life.

It’s Fun to Learn with Tourism

Tourism doesn’t enrich the students of history only. It has got something for everyone, regardless of the subject a person belongs to. Such as:

  1. Holds interest in geography, different lands, and stones
  2. Want to learn about new foods, cooking styles, and recipes
  3. Love to check out new textures, styles, and materials
  4. Sees himself as a nature lover and want to meet mountains, rivers, and beautiful landscapes

You have got a science or arts background, it’s fun to learn with enjoying a trip.

It Breaks the Barriers

They say that distance is not a barrier.

Well, whether it’s about any relationship, exploring new things, or increasing the knowledge, digitalization can help or mount the level of ease, but cannot give the real-time experience.

How many of us try to learn the language of a neighboring state? Do we really bother about what they wear and how to live?

When we belong to a region, city, or state, we speak in a particular language that belongs to the same area only. When we go out, especially out of the state or country, we tend to learn a new language or at least new words.

Going out of the door of your home breaks many barriers, giving you the platform to learn, explore, and collect something for a lifetime.

Revisit in Seconds

When we see our photographs of a visit after five or 10 years, it seems as if we have revisited the place and the vibes.

Many of us also try to hire regional dresses and click beautiful pictures in the same place. This way, we not only keep that experience alive in our memories but also in our sight for the future.

Tourism is healthy for both body and mind. It is indeed a remedy and incorporates many medicinal properties. And most importantly — you don’t need to take those bitter pills as well, but their good effects are all yours!

Significance of National Tourism Day

Tourism, trips, and traveling are good for mental health and well-being.
